How to Make the Metaxa Frappé Collins

Looking for a take on the Collins that’s perfect for summer? A Collins made with the Greek brandy Metaxa will bring some Greek spirit to your summer time jaunts.

Don’t wait until summer to make this cocktail. It’s totally different than most Collins and even seems almost a Negroni, because it uses the traditionally Greek brandy, Metaxa! It’s super easy – just add all the ingredients to highball glass filled with crushed ice and garnish!

  • Metaxa comes from created by Spyros Metaxa in the 1800’s.
  • Metaxa is a Greek brandy made from a combination of aged Muscat wines from the island of Samos, aged white wine distillates and Mediterranean botanicals
  • Metaxa tastes like honey, almonds, stone-fruits like apricots, pears, peaches, with an aroma of rose and honey

What goes into a Metaxa Frappé Collins

Making a Collins with Metaxa is a fabulous idea. The brandy adds so much depth to it and Metaxa brings along a sweetness from the honey as well as fruitiness. You’ll want make sure you drink just one, as it is super more-ish!

  • Metaxa (I use Metaxa 12 stars)
  • Antica Formula vermouth or any sweet vermouth
  • Angostura Bitters
  • Dried orange
  • Crushed ice

It’s so simple to make it. The crushed ice makes all the difference.

What tools you need to make the Metaxa Frappé Collins

You won’t be needing a cocktail shaker for this one! Grab a jigger, a barspoon, and high glasses for this recipe. You can make the crushed ice so easily with an ice crusher machine, no need to spend a lot of money!

Ingredients
  

  • 40 ml Metaxa 12 Stars
  • 25 ml Antica Formula vermouth
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters

Instructions
 

  • Pour all ingredients one by one into the glass
  • Add crushed ice and stir gently
  • Garnish with a slice of dried orange.
