THE BEST BULLET JOURNAL SUPPLIES
When I stumbled upon The Bullet Journal website, my life changed and I’m not being dramatic. My first bullet journal last year helped restructure my life and I credit it with allowing me to start A Lush Life Manual and relaunch its podcast, Lush Life Podcast. A lot to juggle!
My first go at bullet journaling was a bit of a mess – illegible black scribblings on a lined notebook, but the essence was there. This year, I scanned the internet for other bullet journals and bullet journal supplies and was inspired by all those other bullet journalers to be a bit more creative. Already I am fully committed to making it the best it can be. Even for someone who has almost no inherent artistic talent like me, you still can have fun with colors and stencils and you’ll find ourself getting better all the time. These are the tools I use and I hope you can get the same satisfaction as I do!
BEST BULLET JOURNAL NOTEBOOKS
The first step and most important purchase is to finding the notebook that is the best choice for you. You are going to have to live with it for the year or until it runs out and you need another one. This go around, I made it easy on myself and bought the one that was purpose-built for Bullet Journals.
Leuchttrum 1917 Bullet Journal Notebook
This is my favorite as it has already done the work for you. There is the Index and 8 pages dedicated to Rapid Logging, Migration, Collections and Indexing, plus an elastic band fastener and 3 ribbon markers. I especially love the colors. I bought mine in the Nordic Blue, but there is black and green as well!
If you feel you can set it up just as easily as buy one without all the stuff inside, then a normal Leuchttrum 1917 Notebook will do. There are so many delicious colors!
If you want to try something other than Leuchtturn, I think Moleskine and Rhodia have the best selection.
BEST PENS FOR THE BULLET JOURNAL
You need tools to fill this very empty journal, but where to start? I decided since I am not very artsy to trace everything in pencil first and then copy and fill in with color. I find that erasers at the end of pencils never work properly so I suggest buying a big eraser and they come in fun shapes and sizes now! They say that John Steinbeck used more than 300 pencils to write his novel East of Eden. If it was good enough for him, it’s fine for us!
Dixon Ticonderoga Cedar Artist Pencil, No.2, 12 pack
The American in me loves a Ticonderoga, but I also love Staedtler products as well. Helix Oxford makes a pack that comes with a sharpener and an eraser!
Stabilo Erasers are the prettiest, but the others work just as well.
Staedtler Pigment Liner
Now for the biggie, you are committed to putting pen to paper..but which pens where there are so many out there. Thanks to the guidance of Bullet Journal makers who have come before me, I was advised to start with the Staedler and I haven’t look back.
Tombow Dual Markers
These are my FAVORITE markers of all time! One side is like a pen and the other like a paintbrush. Fabulous colors and just over all fun to play with.
I will keep adding to the list but this should help you with decision making for a least the start.
Toast to yourself by making some of the cocktail recipes that you can find here!
