Adding a dose of orange juice to your classic Margarita turns it into a Texas Margarita. One sip will transport you to the Lone Star State!
The traditional Margarita is a widely popular drink. Since it was invented, this classic cocktail has been turned and twisted with thousands of variations. One such variant is the Texas Margarita. Now the origin of Texas Margarita is unknown and we are also not sure why it is called so. However, the one thing we are sure about is the fact that the addition of orange juice makes it an utterly delicious cocktail and perfect for those hot summer nights.
What goes into a Texas Margarita?
You can make a Texas Margarita using four simple ingredients. If you are a cocktail lover, you will have these ingredients in your collection definitely!
- Tequila: The main ingredient used to make any Margarita is the best tequila. Use your favorite tequila, but always go for premium quality tequila. It doesn’t have to be 100% Agave but make sure you get a great mixto, like El Seuno. You can use silver tequila, gold tequila or an aged tequila s well.
- Orange liqueur: Orange liqueur is easy to find – Grand Marnier, Cointreau, Triple Sec, Orange Curacao. It adds the sweetness instead of sugar syrup and enhances the orange juice!
- Orange juice: I prefer using freshly squeezed orange juice for this recipe. It has freshness and the right amount of bitterness.
- Fresh Lime juice: For the best margaritas, you have to use fresh lime juice gives this drink a punch of tang and makes your tastebuds zing! Don’t use a sour mix or margarita mix, as it just won’t taste as good! You can balance it out with simple syrup if you find it too bitter.
- Salt: Use either sea salt, coarse salt or kosher salt to decorate the rim of your serving glass.
What tools you need to make Texas Margarita
You’ll need a cocktail shaker for this one! Grab a jigger and a margarita glass for this Texas Margarita recipe.
Start by salting the rim of a margarita glass, if you want salt. Use the lime wedge to moisten the rim, pour salt into a plate, hold the glass upside down, and dip it in, coating the edges. Then pour the tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, and orange juice into a cocktail shaker. Now, Add ice in the shaker, seal it and start shaking. Strain the drink into the chilled serving glass with the salted rim.
- 🍸Top Tip(le):
- Rim: I love using salt for decorating the rim of the glass. It intensifies the flavors of the drink and looks pretty on the rim as well. You can also add food color to the rim to give a colorful effect.
- Fruit slices: Fresh slices of lime are just perfect. However, you can also use lemon or orange slices. Try fresh mint leaves as well.
- Straws and umbrellas: You can use decoration props as well. How about colorful swirly straws and beautiful umbrellas to decorate your cocktail glass – just make sure there is no plastic anywhere!
- Frozen Margarita: You can always make this frozen, by adding all the ingredients to a blender, add ice cubes and then blend!
