It looks almost the same, but this bottle of Gordon’s could not be more different. This is Gordon’s of the world famous gin and now they have launched an alcohol free spirit.
What is Gordon’s Gin
For those who don’t know about Gordon’s Gin, to say it’s one of the most popular brands in the world is not giving it its due. In 2019, Gordon’s recorded volume sales of 6.7 million 9 litre cases worldwide.
They were one of the first on the market, opening for business in 1769, and now they are leaders again with their leap into the alcohol free space.
Anyone who reads Lush Life knows I am not the biggest gin drinker. That doesn’t mean I don’t like it, but it’s not the first spirit I reach for when making a cocktail at home. Saying that, there is always that moment in summer when I find myself craving a G&T in a balloon glass crammed with ice and wedges of lime.
Just preparing it to go along with my lunch brought a little color to my cheek! I think it was the idea that I was having a “drink” with my mushroom soup meal.
Although surrounded by bottles at home, I am not usually a day time drinker and I felt a little naughty about mixing up a mid-day cocktail. But this was 0.0%, so no guilt was necessary.
How does Gordon’s 0.0% smell and taste
Gordon’s 0.0% promised to be made “using only the finest distilled botanicals, just like Gordon’s London Dry Gin.” Opening the bottle, I did get that familiar aroma of juniper that one equates with Gordon’s Gin!
With eyes closed, my first sip of my G 0.0 & T fast-forwarded me right to that moment in time in the dog days of summer 2021. (No one needs to go back to summer 2020!) I loved it and even poured myself a second.
Tasting it neat, Gordon’s 0.0% has a subtle sweet, juniper flavor, more like an Old Tom Gin. As one who never drinks gin neat, I find it better to judge it with tonic. It works very well with a skinny tonic or refreshingly light Fever-Tree to counterbalance its inherent sweetness.
I am thrilled that Gordon’s has embraced the no-abv trend and even happier that it is made to brighten up those endless, locked in, noon-time lunches.
