Sweet Tarts were one of my favorite candies growing up. Like its name, the multi-colored candies are both sweet and tart and full of flavor. Now that I can make an adult version in cocktail shot form makes me equally as happy as when I was young!
What is a Sweet Tart exactly?
In the United States, loads of children are sorting their Sweet Tart candies by color and saving their favorites for last. The red ones were mine, but so many love the blue. They are small round treats, each having a different flavor: blue – punch, red – cherry, purple – grape, yellow – lemon, and green – green apple.
The Sweet Tart shot instantly reminds you of those colorful candies you loved eating as a child. However, growing up doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy these. In fact, If you love cocktails and drinks as an adult, you can relive the sweet-tart childhood memories by making sweet-tart shots
Why is this drink called Sweet Tart shot?
You might think that sweet tarts are included in the list of ingredients of this recipe, but they’re not. The only reason this cocktail is called so is that you can make it in all the different colors sweet tarts are available. Sweet Tarts serve as an inspiration. Kids love them because of their vibrant colors; as adults, we love this recipe for the same reason.
What is in the Sweet Tart shot
I loved red sweet tarts so, I am taking inspiration from the bright red color and using the following ingredients to make mine.
- Raspberry liqueur: Most raspberry liqueurs have a sweet and slightly tart flavor. You can easily buy raspberry liqueur from any store. I love Chambord Raspberry liqueur because of its quality and amazing flavor. It is made with cognac. If you wish to make raspberry liqueur at home, you can do that as well. Simply muddle raspberries by mixing them with sugar, add vodka and let it rest for about 2 to 3 days. Then just strain and store the liqueur.
- Southern Comfort: This is a must for the Sweet Tart shot. Southern Comfort literally offers the comfort of the shot with its fruit and spice-infused drink laced with whiskey.
- Sour mix: Sour mix is a liquid made from sugar, lemon, and lime juices. It has a tangy, citrusy, and sweet flavor and is very refreshing. You can always make this yourself!
What tools you need to make the Sweet Tart shot
Making the Sweet Tart shot is a 2 minute process. All you have to do is add all the ingredients to a shaker, seal it and start shaking. Add ice cubes and shake again. Serve it in a glass filled with ice. You will get vibrant red color and a delicious drink.
Grab that cocktail shaker or a mason jar for this one! You’ll also need a jigger, strainer, and shot glasses!
I confess I use sour mix for this, both for convenience and just to get that sweet tart taste I am looking for! If it is too sour for you and you prefer sweet drinks, you can always add a little simple syrup or add a touch of lime juice or lemon juice for a bit of fresh citrus.
- Top Tip(ple)🍸:

- Add Blue Raspberry Vodka and Lilac Pearl Dust for a sweet-tart shot with purple color and loads of dramatics.
