This versatile cocktail has inspired countless variations, so make up your own, or try one of these!

Award-winning Belfast-based mixologist Emily Doherty, who created this take on the original Gold Rush, says, “My inspiration behind this drink was to take the classic ‘gold rush’ cocktail and put a modern twist on it. Hot honey is something that became very popular this year and there is a good reason, you get the sweetness and floral notes coming from the honey with the light spice and black pepper from the chilli.

The other ingredients in this cocktail are the type of ingredients you see in a Margarita but they work incredibly well with whiskey, the orange juice opens up the sweet notes in the spirit and the salt rim balances out the sweetness.” Try this one!

Think back to a time when classic cocktails were not all the rage. It’s hard but back in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, one bar changed everything. There in New York City, the Penicillin cocktail was born!

The Penicillin Cocktail is a modern classic that was created by Australian bartender Sam Ross. Ross was working at Milk & Honey, one of the most famous bars in the world, when he came up with the recipe in 2005. He was inspired by the flavors of Scotch whisky and ginger, and he wanted to create a drink that combined them in a refreshing and balanced way. Thus the Penicillin was born!

The New York Sour is an iconic classic cocktail which shouldn’t work, but it does. Taking the Whiskey Sour one step further by adding a layer of red wine! The New York Sour cocktail is a refreshing, creamy, and boozy drink that is one of the best and least known.

Adding a layer of red wine to a classic whiskey sour seems like it would to throw it all off, but it is a perfect match to the sweetness of the classic cocktail. Since discovering the New York Sour, it has become one of my favorite cocktails.

The Amaretto Sour is easy to make and an almost perfect combination of sweet and sour makes it a delicious classic cocktail.

Honestly, I am not the biggest amaretto liqueur fan, but somehow this Amaretto Sour cocktail recipe makes a great cocktails. It’s a fabulous drink, if made correctly, where the smooth almond flavor pairs well with the sour flavor of the citrus. That’s a perfect Amaretto Sour.

Although we are pretty sure that the Pisco Sour was invented in Peru, you can use either Peruvian or Chilean Pisco to make this lovely cocktail.

Victor Vaughen Morris, an American in Peru, had the hippest bar in town. He had moved to Lima in 1904 and opened Morris Bar. The Pisco Sour was his take on the Whisky Sour! It was tweaked in the 1920’s when bartender Mario Bruige added the egg white to give it foam and the Angostura bitters a bit of bite. Try it!

One of the oldest cocktail recipes is the sour – a mixture of spirit, sugar and citrus. Now instead of rum or whiskey, try Jägermeister and see how that shakes it up!

Usually it’s made with whiskey, so I was reticent to try it with Jägermeister. I was so wrong. It works so well! Just the right amount of spice to go with the sour!
