The Old Fashioned is one of the most iconic cocktails in history, a drink that has stood the test of time with its simple yet refined combination of whiskey, sugar, bitters, and citrus.
When made with Woodford Reserve Bourbon, the Old Fashioned takes on an added layer of depth, with rich caramel, vanilla, and spice notes that enhance its very being!
A Brief History of the Old Fashioned
The Old Fashioned dates back to the early 19th century, when the term “cocktail” referred to a simple combination of spirit, sugar, water, and bitters. As cocktail culture evolved, bartenders experimented with new ingredients, prompting some drinkers to request a return to the “old-fashioned” way of making whiskey cocktails—thus, the Old Fashioned was born.
Louisville, Kentucky, is widely recognized as the birthplace of the modern Old Fashioned, and today, the city honors its legacy by naming it the official cocktail of Louisville. Woodford Reserve is the perfect choice for this drink, as its balanced flavor profile complements the Old Fashioned’s signature simplicity and it was born and bred in Kentucky!
