10 Easy Gin Cocktails To Make at Home

Gin is one of the easiest spirits to use at home because it does so much of the work for you. It already brings citrus, herbs, spice, and structure, so even the simplest drinks feel like proper cocktails.

These are the gin cocktails I would start with if you want drinks that are straightforward, satisfying, and easy to make at home. Most need only a few ingredients, and once oyu made one, you can move through the list like a pro.

Before you start, it helps to have a few basics on hand. A decent London Dry gin, fresh lemons and limes, a simple jigger, a bar spoon, and a mixing glass or shaker will take you a long way, and a good tonic really does matter!

Martini

Gin Martini

The Martini is the drink people overthink, but at its core it is very simple. Gin and vermouth, stirred cold and served properly, is all you are dealing with. You do not need to chase perfection straight away. You just need to make one that you like and then you understand why it has lasted so long.

Gin and Tonic

Gin and Tonic

This is the obvious one, but it earns its place. Gin and tonic is simple on paper, yet the balance between the two makes all the difference. A good version feels crisp, cold, and properly refreshing rather than flat. It is also one of the easiest ways to understand how different gins behave.

Tom Collins

Tom Collins

The Tom Collins is one of the great easy home cocktails because it asks very little of you and gives plenty back. Gin, lemon, sugar, and soda come together into something light and easy to drink. It is basically a long gin sour, which is part of its appeal.

Gin Fizz

Gin Fizz

The Gin Fizz sits close to the Tom Collins, but it feels a touch more fancy. The structure is familiar, but the texture changes the experience. If you make it with egg white, it softens the drink without complicating it. It is easier than it looks. At this point, a citrus press and a decent shaker start to make a difference. They are simple upgrades, but you will notice them across nearly every drink here.

Gimlet

French Gimlet

The Gimlet is one of my fav gin cocktails. Gin and lime leave very little room for error, which is exactly why it works. When it is cold and properly balanced, it feels sharper and cleaner than most cocktails. It is one worth getting right, but just remember the original is made with Rose’s Lime Cordial!

Gin Sour

The Gin Sour is as classic as it gets and teaches you balance quickly. Gin, lemon, and sugar are all you need, with egg white if you want a softer finish. Small changes here make a big difference. That is part of why it is so useful to make at home.

Bee’s Knees

Bee's Knees Cocktail

The Bee’s Knees swaps sugar for honey, which gives the drink a softer and slightly rounder feel. It still sits firmly in the sour family. It is one of the easiest ways to make something feel a bit more complicated. A good simple honey syrup is all it takes.

Negroni

Mezcal Negroni

The Negroni is one of the simplest cocktails to remember. Equal parts gin, vermouth, and Campari does most of the work. It’s bitterness does put some people off it, but once you get used to it, it is one of the greatest cocktails ever!

Southside

Southside

The Southside brings mint into the mix, which lifts the drink without making it overly sweet. It is a good option when you want something fresh but still balanced. It also looks more complicated than it is.

Gin Basil Smash

Gin Basil Smash

The Gin Basil Smash is modern and very easy to make. Fresh basil, lemon, sugar, and gin create something bright and immediate. This is the one I make when I want something that feels a bit more current. It is simple, but it always lands well.

A Few Lush Life Lessons

  • If you find yourself making these regularly, this is when better vermouth, proper ice, and a solid mixing glass start to matter. Those small upgrades improve everything!
  • If you have a bottle of gin and a few basic ingredients, you already have everything you need to make these. Most of these drinks come down to the same handful of elements, just adjusted slightly.
  • Once you get comfortable, you start to see how flexible gin really is. That is when things get more interesting.

If this has you in the mood to keep going, I would move on to vodka, tequila, or rum next. Each one brings a slightly different style of drink, but the same simple approach applies, whether you are making easy vodka cocktails, easy tequila cocktails, or easy rum cocktails at home.
