Some cocktails feel like they belong to a very specific time and place, and the Bobby Burns is firmly in that camp. Named after the Scottish poet Robert Burns, this is a drink that leans into whisky, vermouth, and a whisper of Benedictine to create something quietly complex and a little bit old-school in the best way.

It first appeared in early 20th-century bar books and has always lived just slightly in the shadow of bigger names like the Manhattan and Rob Roy. That said, one sip and it becomes clear it deserves far more attention.
Variations
- Use a lighter blended Scotch for a softer, more approachable version.
- Switch to a more robust, slightly smoky whisky if you want to add depth and a touch of drama.
- Play with the vermouth, a richer Italian style will bring more sweetness, while a drier one will sharpen the edges.
Why A Lush Life Loves It
The touch of Bénédictine is what makes it, adding a subtle honeyed, herbal layer that keeps the whisky from taking over completely. It is elegant, a little introspective, and perfect when the night calls for something Scottish!
