The Alabama Slammer is pure 1970s swagger in a glass – bright, brash, and not remotely interested in subtlety. It first showed up during the decade’s anything-goes cocktail boom, with roots often traced to the University of Alabama, where it became a game-day staple.

Whether it was born behind a bar or in a college kitchen is still up for debate, but its name (and its punch) made it impossible to ignore. By the 1980s, it had gone fully mainstream, helped along by its easy-drinking, party-ready reputation.
At its core, the Alabama Slammer is all about bold, fruity flavours with Southern Comfort leading the charge, backed by sloe gin and a citrus kick that keeps things just shy of cloying. It’s the kind of drink that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and that’s exactly the point. Order one when you’re in the mood for nostalgia, a bit of fun, and something that leans more toward carefree than crafted.
