How to Make Brown Butter–Washed Bourbon

This is a simple one-time prep that gives you several drinks’ worth.
You’ll need:
  • 1 cup bourbon
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
Steps:
  • Melt the butter in a pan over medium heat.
  • Let it cook until it smells nutty and turns light brown (don’t burn it).
  • Pour the hot butter into the bourbon and stir.
  • Let sit at room temperature for 1 hour.
  • Freeze until the butter solidifies on top.
  • Remove the butter and strain the bourbon through a fine strainer or coffee filter.
  • Store the finished bourbon in the fridge.
