I have been trying to have this legend on Lush Life for a year, through no fault of his. Mark Gillespie, Host and Executive Producer of WhiskyCast, the most famous drinks podcast of them all, was ready from the moment I congratulated him for being a finalist for a Tales of the Cocktail Spirited award last year. He lives quite close to where I grew up, but we kept missing each other every time I was visiting my folks. Now that Lush Life has gone virtual, he was my first choice and we made it happen last week.
As you might have guessed by the name of his podcast, Mark is the messenger of all things whisky-related. This brown spirit that even the Pope calls “the true holy water” is surrounded by an aura of mystery; its history is full of stories, most of them romantic. Thanks to Mark, we’ve been hearing those stories on WhiskyCast since 2005.
Usually he is the one doing the interviewing, today is one of the rare occasions when he was interviewed. Pour yourself a dram and sit back and enjoy hearing how and why Mark became the man behind WhiskyCast.
Although Mark is a dram man himself, when pressed, he gave me his favorite cocktail, if he had to choose one. Find out how to make the Whiskey & Ginger Highball here.
